The main body of chapter seven, "She hangs on the western wall," takes place in Florence in April of 1899. The major players are Evan Godolphin, Hugh Godolphin, Victoria Wren, Rafael Mantissa, the Gaucho, and Stencil the Elder. Major points include the revelations about Vheissu and the attempted theft of The Birth of Venus in a hollowed out Judas Tree from the Uffizi. Evan really shines when he sings a bit of Don Giovanni while standing on the seat of a cab.
